Country Fried Steak, mashed potatos, pinto beans and beets - a filling lunch!
Lunch at Peggy's Cafe
Peggy's Cafe
So, we were on our way to Springfield. The scenery has become quite agricultural, ie. cornfields on both sides of the road, as far as you can see, with an occasional field of tobacco. Cornfield after cornfield, and we haven't even gotten to Illinois yet! The road was nice two lane, with only an occasional farm vehicle. In fact, it was near here that our two Midgets passed a deer! Was slightly overcast so was not too hot, yet. When we go to Springfield, we were having withdrawals from O'Reillys. Paul was concerned that since we used our spare fuel pump, we should get another one just in case. Around here, there seems to be an auto parts store on every block. I don't know how O'Reillys stays in business because there seems to be one of those every half mile. Anyway, too bad they don't have a rewards card, as we would be able to get a nice appliance or gift by now. So, we got a pump and were on our way. We cruised into Kentucky, passing through the small towns of Guthrie, Trenton, and Pembroke before arriving in Hopkinsville. We drove around the downtown where we stopped for a break. We went to Grammy's Kitchen for a cold drink and a bathroom break. It was too early for lunch, so on we went to Princeton. The drive was nice, with more scenery of, you guessed it, more cornfields! Entering Princeton, I noticed that there was a loud knocking noise coming from under the bonnet, but the car was running so we continued on to downtown and pulled in a parking lot. I opened the bonnet to see where the banging was coming from and it was the pump. It normally clicks, and I thought it was probably just louder due to heat. We parked and walked around the downtown and found the place to eat in downtown Princeton - Peggy's Cafe. Very friendly people, good hometown meat and three cooking and reasonably priced. Turns out, Peggy has a son that lives in Grayson, GA, where we are from! With our belly's full, we walked back to the car. A check of the fuel pump showed that it was working and much quieter now. So, we pulled out on our way to the Cave-in-Rock ferry. Life is good...
