The Peachtree MG Registry Bourbon/Whiskey Tour MG 2016 began the second day as we left the home of the atomic bomb - Oak Ridge, TN. It was a beautiful, clear and cool morning as we left, Just as we left Oak Ridge, we took a slight detour (wrong turn) and upon realizing the mistake, turned around in the parking lot of what looked like a hair salon/residence. While there were several MGs in the front of the house, a guy comes out and says, "I have one of those in the garage." He proceeds to open the garage door and sure enough, there is a pale yellow MGB! Out of all the houses in Oak Ridge to pick to turn around, we picked the one with an MG in the garage!
As we drove on toward Lexington, we passed through the town of Somerset. And it was horrible. It had gotten very hot again, and the highway goes right through this town. There must have been 30 traffic lights along a couple mile stretch and they are set so you get every one red!! We finally got out of Somerset and continued on to Danville where we stopped for lunch at Mallards. It was nice (and cool!) and they had a private room in the back where we could all sit together.
After lunch we continued to Lexington and our hotel. Driving into Lexington, we began to pass very beautiful, manicured horse farms. After relaxing and cooling off, we drove a short way to dinner.
We ate at Ramsey's, a local place that was highly recommended. It was nothing fancy, but the food was good. I had to try the famous Kentucky Hot Brown - this is a dish with white bread, sliced turkey and ham, tomatoes, bacon and cheese. Lots and lots of cheese! It was good, but don't know if I'd get it again. After dinner, we stopped at Culvers Custard for some dessert. Then it was back to the hotel to crash. Tomorrow we'll stop at Woodford distillery on the way to Louisville.
