Today is our off day.

6/17/2016

We did not attend the awards banquet last night, but I was told that I was awarded 3rd place in my class (out of 17)!

We're staying for the British Bash (an all British) car show on Saturday, so we did some more exploring today.  We moved to a hotel downtown yesterday and today we walked to breakfast at a Wild Eggs downtown.  After breakfast, we walked back to the hotel, got the car and set out to see more of Louisville and surrounding areas.   First stop was Middletown, a small town about 20 miles east of Louisville.  It was small, alright. The "historic" downtown had one or two shops and a couple of restaurants.  However, Kathy found the one cute, well-stocked gift shop and did her part to boost the local economy!  Next stop was Anchorage, KY which is right next door to Middletown.  It was even smaller - we didn't even see a shop.  After that, we started back toward Louisville by a different route.  We got on River Road, which follows the Ohio River.  We stopped at the Captain's Quarters for lunch.  This is a restaurant and bar that overlooks the Ohio River.

After lunch, we continued on River Road back to downtown Louisville and took the bridge over to historic downtown Jeffersonville, IN.  Jeffersonville is home to the famous Schimpff's candy company, which has been in business since 1891!  Along with a large selection of homemade candy, they also have an old fashioned soda fountain.  We got a couple of pieces of candy to try and they were quite tasty!

Chocolate turtle from Schimpffs.  This is obviously a male turtle as his nuts are visible!

After Schimpff's, we headed back to the hotel relax before dinner.  Tonight we'll try a different restaurant downtown - Doc Crow's.  The restaurant is named after Dr. James Crow, called the father of modern distilling.  Its housed in a historic building on Whiskey Row and it was all very good.

After dinner, we got an unexpected treat - the Kentuckiana Gay Pride Parade went through downtown Louisville!  What an outrageous event...

Tomorrow is the British Bash - an all British car show.
