What the heck is a French Lick?

6/15/2014

About 9 cars from the Atlanta and Chattanooga area joined our 4 last night, so we now have about 13 cars on our caravan to French Lick.  The assembly plant, and a museum, for the Chevrolet Corvette is in Bowling Green, so this morning, many of the group went to the museum before leaving town.  (The assembly plant is not open on Sunday).  After visiting the museum, we were off to French Lick.  The group split up into two groups, a faster one that took a more direct approach and a slower group that took a more scenic route (my group of 5 cars).

We left Bowling Green on scenic Hwy. 231 passing through several small towns, including Beaver Dam, KY.  where the Welcome to Beaver Dam sign read, "population 2000 happy people and a few soreheads"!  We stopped in Owensboro, KY for lunch at Real Hacienda for some good, authentic Mexican food.  We then crossed the Ohio river into Indiana and stopped in Jasper for a water break. Shortly after that, we passed through the city of Santa Claus, IN. - no joke.  Not only that, but we passed a police car and on the side was printed "Santa Claus Police"!  A strange sight. After Santa Clause,  it was a short drive into French Lick.  We arrived at the hotel, the French Lick Resort, with MGs everywhere!  We registered at the hotel, then went to register for the show, and then parked the car and headed to the hospitality area where we met old friends and new.  After a bite to eat, it was back to the room to relax (crash) and figure out what we are going to do tomorrow.  Atay tuned...
